Manual Traction

Spinal traction is the process of applying force through body weight, weights, and/or pulleys to draw apart the vertebrae of the spine. Manual Traction is performed by qualified Chiropractors to assist in treating conditions such as back pain, neck pain, lower back pain, frozen shoulder, painful joints, arthritis, muscle spasms, and many other conditions that would benefit from a reduction of strain or stretching.

Chiropractic Adjustments/Manipulations

Chiropractic "adjustment" is manipulation applied to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The purpose of the adjustment is to reduce the subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.

The effect of a single chiropractic adjustment produces both sensory and motor effects as well as sympathetic nervous system effects and blood chemistry. These may include:

  • Increased joint movement and reduction of pain
  • Increased skin pain tolerance level
  • Increased muscle pressure pain tolerance
  • Reduced muscle activity and tension
  • Increased blood flow
  • Blood pressure reduction
  • Increased secretion of melatonin
  • Increased plasma beta endorphin levels
  • Enhanced respiratory
  • Pupillary diameter changes

There are different techniques from which Dr. Davis may choose to perform your adjustment. The most common chiropractic technique used is the low amplitude, high velocity thrust. This involves a tiny calculated movement in the joint at high speed. Each adjustment takes only seconds to complete, and may be accompanied by a click or popping noise. This has nothing to do with bones cracking, but occurs when gases released from the joint fluid form a bubble and burst.

Other techniques include variations on the high velocity thrust, modalities (manipulation of joints) that use the body's neuro-muscular reflexes, massage and stretching techniques for muscles and ligaments

There is a certain skill level involved with high velocity, low amplitude adjustment or manipulations, and rest assured, Dr. Davis is highly competent. The number of chiropractic treatments required for a particular patient varies significantly due to the degree of injury diagnosed. Chiropractic adjustments or manipulations are extremely safe. The risk factor is estimated to be in excess of one million to one.
